Hi, we're Hunter and Sarah, a husband-and-wife, luxury wedding photography team. We’re also educators, helping other photographers build profitable and sustainable photography businesses.
As wedding photographers, one of the best parts of interacting with so many couples is hearing their stories. Each engaged couple has such a unique journey that’s brought them to where they are, and it’s one of the first questions we usually ask when we sit down to talk wedding photography with new couples. If you follow our blog, you know that we love to share stories as we show off images from our sessions – both our clients’ stories and stories from our time together.
However, it occurred to us this fall that the story that’s featured the least on our blog and social media is our own! Now that the cold weather is settling in and we won’t be shooting sessions three times a week, we finally have space on our blogging calendar to tell our own love story! As high school sweethearts, it’s a long one, but we hope you’ll join us each Saturday this winter as we share our story.
On our second dating anniversary, Hunter gave me a photobook filled with pictures, ticket stubs, and other trinkets that we had collected since we had begun dating. He called the album, “Remember that Time?” and it was filled with little reminders of fun dates and adventures we had had. Unbeknownst to me, just a few months into our relationship he had been making small notes on his phone anytime we went somewhere new or had a fun adventure with friends so that he could one day give me that book. When we sat down this fall to talk about this blog series, we couldn’t think of a title that was more true to us than “Remember that Time?”

My second half of college was by far the better half. Not only had I found a stride in my classwork and friendships at CNU, but things with Hunter were better than ever. Of course, we had challenges and struggles and even a few fights – every real relationship does – but overall it was an incredible time of adventure and growth for us.
We spent a lot of weekends at each other’s schools continuing to get to know each other’s friend groups. Of course, the only difference was when Hunter visited me, he took photos instead of being in them..
We spent a lot of holidays together…
And as all long-distance couples do, we spent a lot of time on the phone and on video chat…
Over those two years, I patiently saw Hunter through all the phases of his hair before we finally settled on the man bun…
We also took some really fun trips during those years, like to upstate New York…
To Washington DC…
Hiking near Charlotteville…
And of course that infamous backpacking trip to Mount Rogers (NEVER AGAIN)…
There were some great dates during those two years…
And of course plenty of trips to the beach…
A lot of hilarious times with friends…
Plus some stand-outs like our first couple’s Halloween costume, the first time we went to Costco together, and that time someone from the Lumineers threw us free tickets to their concert from backstage (ask us about that one later!)
Then, before I knew it, I had taken my last final exam and was graduating…
And at the end of that summer, I took a chance on Hunter and I’s relationship. I packed up everything I owned with the help of Hunter and some of our friends and moved to Charlottesville to be closer to my boyfriend. I got a new job and a new apartment by myself, trusting that Hunter and I were serious.
As it turns out, I made the right call since only two months later, we’d be engaged! But more on that in the next episode…
