Hi, we're Hunter and Sarah, a husband-and-wife, luxury wedding photography team. We’re also educators, helping other photographers build profitable and sustainable photography businesses.
As wedding photographers, one of the best parts of interacting with so many couples is hearing their stories. Each engaged couple has such a unique journey that’s brought them to where they are, and it’s one of the first questions we usually ask when we sit down to talk wedding photography with new couples. If you follow our blog, you know that we love to share stories as we show off images from our sessions – both our clients’ stories and stories from our time together.
However, it occurred to us this fall that the story that’s featured the least on our blog and social media is our own! Now that the cold weather is settling in and we won’t be shooting sessions three times a week, we finally have space on our blogging calendar to tell our own love story! As high school sweethearts, it’s a long one, but we hope you’ll join us each Saturday this winter as we share our story.
On our second dating anniversary, Hunter gave me a photobook filled with pictures, ticket stubs, and other trinkets that we had collected since we had begun dating. He called the album, “Remember that Time?” and it was filled with little reminders of fun dates and adventures we had had. Unbeknownst to me, just a few months into our relationship he had been making small notes on his phone anytime we went somewhere new or had a fun adventure with friends so that he could one day give me that book. When we sat down this fall to talk about this blog series, we couldn’t think of a title that was more true to us than “Remember that Time?”

I think one of our first fights was about my senior prom. I know that’s probably the most cliché high school thing that possibly could have happened, but we promised you the real story here – terrible clichés and all. A guy that Hunter had looked up to as a mentor was getting married, and the wedding reception was during my senior prom. Looking back, we probably both would have had more fun at the wedding reception, but at the time, what’s more important to a girl than her senior prom?
The rest of my senior year (Hunter’s junior year, for those of you who are keeping score) had been a bit of a blur. Hunter and I’s relationship was very much in its early days, and we were meeting each other’s friends and family and becoming a greater and greater part of each other’s lives. But it was still my senior year: I was applying to colleges, taking my last few AP exams, and was in the process of finishing my senior soccer season as team captain.
By the time we realized that prom would conflict with the wedding, it was only a couple weeks away and I had already bought my dress. So, in a fit of uncharacteristic maturity for two teenagers, we compromised. Hunter showed up late to dinner so he could go to the wedding ceremony, but had to skip the reception so he could take me to prom.
Although he was initially a bit disappointed at missing out on what would have been his first ever wedding, once we started getting dressed and taking photos, we ended up having a great time with our friends! I can still remember the jacket to Hunter’s rented tux that ended up being so oversized that he never even wore it! His friend Garrett felt so bad that he kept his jacket off for photos too.
It’s funny to think that Hunter’s first DSLR camera that took these prom photos (likely in the hand of Hunter’s brother at the time) would be the same camera that we would photograph our first portrait session, and even our first wedding with! Of course, at the time photography was just a hobby. We had much more pressing things to figure out now that I was off for college…
