Windswept Maternity Session at James Monroe’s Highland

When we arrived at James Monroe’s Highland this past Sunday, we were immediately worried. Since we were still recovering from that weekend’s wedding, we had barely stepped outside until it was time for our sunset maternity session with Vivian and Frank. Because of that, we had failed to notice the consistent twenty mile per hour wind and the gusts at more than twice that speed that threatened to topple Hunter and I right over! However, with some strategic placement (along with some fevered prayers that the wind would die down) we made things work and in the end, were overjoyed with the images, as well as our time together.
Hunter first met Vivian and Frank last summer. Our phone rang one evening and on the other line was Vivian, asking us if we could photograph her intimate elopement in downtown Charlottesville… the next day! I, unfortunately, wasn’t available on such short notice, but luckily Hunter sprang into action, moved around some meetings, and, less than 24 hours later, Vivian and Frank were married and had plenty of beautiful photos to prove it! Their wedding day brought them to the Downtown Mall as well as the University’s Lawn – two staples for anyone who has live in Charlottesville for any length of time. However, neither of those spots offered the kind of natural beauty that we found at James Monroe’s Highland last weekend at sunset!

It has been such a pleasure for Hunter and I to watch you two first join hands in marriage last summer, and now prepare for your baby girl this Spring! Watching your family grow from two individuals to (almost) a cozy family of three is one of the joys of being wedding photographers that we don’t often get to experience. We pray that the next few months go smoothly and that your baby girl is happy and healthy as she enters the world very soon!
