If you had walked onto the University of Virginia’s Lawn this past Saturday, it would’ve looked like most Saturday afternoons during the summer: mostly empty, with a few people hanging around. Although the triple-digit temperatures meant there would be no frisbee-throwing undergrads or dog-walking locals, you may have been surprised to see a young couple enjoying a picnic beneath the shade of a tree. Blanket laid out, wicker picnic basket – the whole deal. Except if you looked closely, you would’ve noticed they didn’t have any food or drinks in their basket. And if you had watched them as Reid walked his girlfriend Kalene to the pre-arranged spot in the center of the Lawn, you would’ve really been surprised to see the picnicking couple pull cameras out of their basket instead of wine or cheese.

 

The moment Reid stepped into the shade of a nearby tree, he turned to face Kalene and she immediately knew what was happening. Reid’s knee had barely touched the ground before Kalene’s hand was covering her face in an overwhelming rush of surprise and in joy. He had just slipped the ring on her finger when Kalene pulled him to his feet and wrapped him into a tight embrace – they were engaged!! The tears in her eyes and exclamations of “No WAY!” and “Oh my GOD!” told Sarah and I that Reid had done a fantastic job of keeping this operation under wraps!

Between the weeks of planning with Reid, the proposal itself, and the engagement mini-session that followed, we really feel like we’ve gotten to know you two well in such a short time! Also, we want to commend you both for keeping your cool and looking so flawless on what was literally the hottest day of 2019 (Kalene, we’re sure this will be a great point to tease Reid about for the rest of your lives). From popping champagne on the Lawn to posing in the Gardens, we had a fantastic time with you two this past Saturday, and know that from here on out, each day together will only be more exciting and wonderful (and sometimes challenging) than the last. Here’s to you two and all that’s ahead!
