When Nicole and Casey began planning their engagement session with us, they said the two words that every photographer secretly dreads hearing from their clients. Peak. Foliage. Although we LOVE the beautiful colors and crunchy leaves underfoot, and relish the chance to shoot during this season each year, it’s almost impossible to predict more than a few days out, and Sarah and I are currently booking sessions 4-6 weeks out! So when couples tell us they want to schedule their session during “peak foliage”, we can give them a rough guess, then cross our fingers. But whether through sheer luck or expert planning, Nicole and Casey clearly got what they wished for!

 

And of course, with Nicole being an artist in her own right (she graduated from UVA with degrees in Studio Art AND Biomedical Engineering – what a boss), she even brought along a picture frame for us to experiment with and get a little creative! Another surprise came when we were walking Nicole and Casey through The Twirl, one of our go-to poses to incorporate more dynamic movement into a session. They casually mentioned how they had joined the ballroom dancing club in college for a little while, then broke out into some impressive dance moves right in front of us! “Waitwaitwait! You’ve GOTTA do that again!”

We had such a good time on Sunday, exploring the Monticello Trails and hearing more about your story! Although we never found the “Fall Color Room”, we feel like the entire park was basically one big canvas painted with vibrant yellows and oranges! It’s hard to believe that we’ll be seeing you again in less than 8 weeks for your winter wedding! Here’s hoping for just the right amount of snow 🙂
