Wendy and Dean told us from our very first meeting that they did not like photos. Which, to be fair, is what close to half of our couples tell us. But as we sat in that coffee shop earlier this winter and planned their Fall elopement, they were clear that spending an hour or more taking portraits was not exactly their idea of a perfect afternoon. Don’t worry – far from being offended – we were excited to show them how much fun photography can be!

 

Our goal with any couple — and even more so with couples who have decided in advance that they don’t like taking photos — is to help them feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. For Wendy and Dean, that meant making a lot of bad jokes, and generally helping them feel as comfortable as possible. As we chatted with them and explored the IX Art Park in downtown Charlottesville, we could feel them relaxing and settling into the photoshoot. We know that in the end, these images will show more of who they are because of it!
