When we walked over the dunes at First Landing State Park, the change was like night and day. We had begun Carly and Grant’s Virginia Beach Engagement Session on the side of the park that’s mostly surrounded by trees, and backs up against the calm, still waters of Broad Bay. The sun was warming our faces, and the mid-50s temperatures made it feel like a warm Spring afternoon. As we explored this half of the park and captured their interactions, we had so much fun watching them joke with each other, including Grant’s many successful attempts to get Carly to laugh for photos.

 

Then, we drove to the side of First Landing that backs up to the intersection of the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Winds gusting at 30 mph rushed off the cold waters of the Chesapeake and blasted us with an icy wind. Suddenly, our mid-50s afternoon felt like an artic windstorm! But Carly and Grant barely seemed to notice. Other than the slight adjustments Grant made in his hand position to make sure Carly’s dress didn’t fly off mid session, they were too busy snuggling up on each other to be deterred by the cold. Whether standing together, or posing separately for a few shots, the wind whipping through their hair or rustling the sea oats at their feet only added drama and romance to their images!

Thank you so much for bringing us all the way to Virginia Beach for your engagement session earlier this month! We can tell that from the way you smiled at each other when the other wasn’t looking (and from the way you lovingly joked on each other) that your relationship is the perfect balance of romance and realness. We had so much fun getting to know you two better and exploring First Landing in a way that we didn’t get to during our own engagement session! We cannot wait for your wedding this fall, and to see you two again soon!
