Charlottesville Backyard and Lawn Elopement

Back in late-March, when the reality of this pandemic was first beginning to sink in across the country, we got an email with a subject line that made our hearts sink. The subject line read: “Wedding Cancellation: May 30, 2020”. With great sadness, Meg informed us that she and Max had called off their wedding (just made illegal by the governor a few hours prior), and had no plans to reschedule. As it turns out, their venue was not willing to reschedule and was done hosting weddings for good. We had met Meg almost a year prior in a small coffee shop in Charlottesville, and hit it off with her instantly. Although we hadn’t had the chance to meet Max yet, we had just been laying plans for their engagement session a few weeks before we got that email. Needless to say, we were heartbroken for the two of them. But we reassured them that whenever they did decide to eventually get married – whether in a full-blow wedding at their venue or in an intimate elopement – that we would do everything in our power to be there.
That’s why we were SO glad when she reached out just a couple of weeks ahead of that May 30th date to let us know that they had restarted the conversation about an intimate, backyard elopement! Being Wahoos at heart, they still wanted to keep their celebration in Charlottesville. And with Meg’s family living just a few miles from the University, it made perfect sense. We love the idea of capturing a few quick photos on the Lawn and in UVA’s Gardens, then popping over to her parents’ home for a brief backyard elopement with just parents and siblings. And that’s exactly what we did!

Even though May 30th looked SO different from how you had originally planned, we’re beyond thrilled that everything worked out in the end. The giant party may come later (or, by the sound of your talk last weekend, maybe never!), but you still get to walk away from your day as husband and wife. The amount of tears Meg shed and the way that Max looked at Meg throughout the afternoon told us just how much these two love each other. We’re so glad that you didn’t let anything – even a global pandemic – get in the way of the start of your marriage! Congrats Meg and Max!
