What are “Apprentices”?

Since early 2019, the Hunter and Sarah Photography Apprenticeship has been a program by which newer photographers in the area can come under our wings and learn from us personally through real-life experience shadowing and assisting on wedding days and portrait sessions. We also teach them in workshops and personalized coaching sessions on shooting, photo editing, couples’ posing, and entrepreneurship. In other words, they’re personally trained by us in nearly all areas of photography and business, from the ground up.

While we often have between 3 and 6 Apprentices under our wing at any given time, the Apprentice(s) featured on this page have to meet strict criteria before we can confidently recommend them to engaged brides:

 

1. They have been training with us for at least a year
2. They have assisted us on at least 5 weddings
3. They have met strict standards we’ve set for quality of photography, editing, and business workflows
4. We have confidence in their ability to give direction to couples, families and wedding parties on wedding days
5. We approve of their website and social media pages
6. We enjoy their company and like them as people!

 

We maintain these high standards so you can be confident that any photographer(s) on this page has our seal of approval, and will be a great alternative to hiring us if you love our brand and our photography, but we’re outside your wedding photography budget! Kelly Spaine, Kelly Spaine Photography

Kelly was an HSP Apprentice from June of 2019 through the summer of 2021, and assisted us on more than a dozen weddings during her time in the program. She proved herself extremely dependable and hardworking, as well as a talented photographer and editor. In the final months of her time as an Apprentice, she proved to us that she provides an excellent value and experience to her clients, and we’re confident that she will be a successful full-time wedding photographer! Since she learned both shooting and editing fundamentals from us, her style is almost indistinguishable from ours at times. We also just really enjoy Kelly’s fun and energetic personality!

Eilish Bailey, Eilish Bailey Photography

Eilish joined the HSP Apprentice Program in the summer of 2020, and is still an active Apprentice. Since joining the program, Eilish has impressed us with her commitment to growing her business, as well as to her own integrity as an artist. As we’ve watched her business grow independently of us, we’ve been impressed with her talent as a photographer, and her hustle! Her wedding photography philosophy is more photojournalistic than ours, and her editing style is darker and more moody, but we absolutely love her work. She’s also just a fun, goofy, and enjoyable person to be around!
