When we asked Sarah and Anders to, “cuddle up” early on in their late-summer engagement session at UVA’s Lawn last month, Anders caught us off guard. Without missing a beat, he said, “Sarah, are you sure you’re okay with that? I know how much you hate cuddling.” We froze. “Wait, no cuddling? Okay… no problem!” we thought to ourselves as we internally recalculated all our engagement session posing. My Sarah jumped right in, “No problem! We don’t need to get too touchy-feeling during your photoshoot.” Then Sarah and Anders started laughing. Anders was being sarcastic, and it had flown right over our heads! His fiancée Sarah was apparently THE biggest fan of cuddling! This is something she and my wife have in common, in addition to sharing a first name.

With a silent sigh of relief, we kept on capturing their engagement session! And whether they were exploring one of UVA’s Gardens, sitting on the steps of the Rotunda, or laying together on a picnic blanket near the Chapel… there was plenty of cuddling! Although it took Sarah and Anders a little while to warm up to our cameras (as it does for most couples), they didn’t need any time to warm up to each other! As we’ve found with hundreds of couples over the years, interacting with each other is where they feel most at home. And it’s what yielded the best images too!

It was really fun finally getting to meet you two in person! Your engagement session at UVA’s Lawn last month was a great opportunity for the four of us to get some face-time ahead of your wedding next Spring. And now we know that when the time comes for your portraits on your wedding day, we won’t hesitate to introduce some cuddles into your portraits! We hope that the rest of wedding planning treats you well, and that you’ll reach out if there’s anything we can do to help you two in the meantime! April 2025 cannot come soon enough! 😊
