Melissa and Whit just happened to text Sarah a few hours ahead of their engagement session to double check the directions. She knew this was really important, since there’s basically no cell service inside Shenandoah. When they didn’t show up on time, Sarah mentioned to me how strange it was: she had just confirmed directions with them a few hours ago! “Uh oh…” I thought to myself… “Sarah is awful at giving directions!” Luckily, Melissa and Whit showed up just a few minutes later, and we never even had to call the National Park search-and-rescue team ???? Sarah agreed to never give directions to a couple again!

But aside from the faulty directions, Melissa and Whit were troopers! Even after promising that we would try to keep them off the scramble as much as we could, when we saw the perfect light, it wasn’t long before we had them traipsing all over those rocks! Whit showed us his real smile — the one he makes when he laughs — early on in the session, and gave us the challenge of bringing it back out again and again for photos! But we learned pretty quickly the best way to put a real, genuine smile on his face: we just asked him to look at Melissa ????

You guys were an absolute joy to spend an evening with! Whether it was commiserating using 60-year old ovens that cook 100 degrees above temperature, or learning about your plans for your farmhouse, you guys were so easy to talk to! We cannot wait to see you again next September, and hope that these images will help you both get through what’s left of a crazy season!
