Macon knew from the jump that he wanted to go big when he proposed to Adelaide. That’s what made a Swannanoa Palace surprise proposal perfect for this grand romantic gesture! After all, what could be more memorable than getting engaged in a half-abandoned, 112-year old palace?! We were even able to catch Adelaide off-guard by scheduling a “tour” at the property. We all arrived, ready for a guided tour of the Italian-inspired villa. But instead of being their fellow tour-goers, we whipped out our cameras the minute Macon got down on one knee!

The 30 or so minutes that followed were a total blast. Capturing portraits of freshly-engaged couples is always fun! But doing it as we explored (only for the second time) the inside of this central Virginia icon made it even more fun for us… and overwhelming for Adelaide! But of course, no trip to Swannanoa would be complete without some romantic portraits of the grounds and gardens. When Macon and Adelaide look back on the day they got engaged, they’ll have plenty of variety when it comes to their portraits!

We know that getting engaged the very same weekend you moved to Charlottesville was a bit crazy. But we know  that it will forever make your time in Charlottesville feel THAT much more special!
