Apple-picking wasn’t just a cute idea for Lauren and Chris’s Engagement Session last month. (Although it definitely was a cute idea). Their first date was at an apple orchard, and they celebrate their anniversary each year by revisiting an orchard to pick apples. So an apple-picking Engagement Session also had a depth of sentimental value to them! Luckily, Carter Mountain Apple Orchard is right up the road from us here in Charlottesville, so Lauren and Chris made their multi-hour drives to us for their apple-picking Engagement Session!

But we didn’t just take a few portraits of them in front of an apple tree. No, no no! After capturing a few posed shots, we told them to buy two baskets, and actually go apple picking! We basically followed them around the orchard, occasionally pointing out a tree in good light or at the right height to get a great shot. But for the most part, Lauren and Chris got to just be themselves and actually pick apples together. And by “pick”, we mostly mean, “eat” for Chris! 😂 The natural smiles, the genuine interactions, and the inquisitive apple-inspecting just can’t be beat for photos!

We had such a blast during your apple-picking Engagement Session last month! It’s always so fun for us to be able to not just capture great portraits, but also photograph our couples doing something they love. We know that those lifestyle ~vibes~ not only helped you two ease into your portrait time with us… but it also made for some great imagery! Although there won’t be any apple-picking to be done at Keswick next Spring, we hope we’ll be able to get some equally natural smiles and candid interactions. Until then, we’re counting down the days!
