Hi, we're Hunter and Sarah, a husband-and-wife, luxury wedding photography team. We’re also educators, helping other photographers build profitable and sustainable photography businesses.
The afternoon of Nadia and Chris’ engagement session was a strange one. When we checked the forecast at about 3:00 pm, the weather was looking great! So we gave Nadia and Chris the green light to drive all the way down from Maryland to meet us at Barboursville Vineyards. But about an hour before their session began, the forecast suddenly changed. Hunter and I watched in horror as a massive green dot with a bright red and yellow center moved towards Barboursville on the map. When we called Nadia and Chris to see if they wanted to turn around and look at another day, they told us they had just pulled up to the vineyard. Hunter and I looked at each other and I made the executive decision: they drove all this way — let’s meet them at Barboursville and just make the best of it. We are SO glad we did.
Although it rained heavily in the 30 minutes leading up to the session, the 90 minutes that we had originally scheduled were actually great — albeit totally unpredictable. One minute it was bright and sunny (and hot). The next it would be pouring down rain as we crowded under our clear umbrellas beneath a tree. A few seconds later, a light drizzle made shots with the umbrellas possible, and a few seconds after that, the sun would be out again. At one point, we even got some sun showers and captured a rainbow behind them – a first for us! Clearly, we had made the right call moving ahead with the session.
You two were absolutely incredible last weekend. Despite the madness of working through difficult weather and running back and forth to grab umbrellas, you guys were such troopers. Your constant positive attitudes and great sense of humor made us forget the stress of shooting in the rain. And hearing your story — about all the times you almost crossed paths growing up in the same town and going to the same college – but didn’t meet until your 4-hour long first date — was so fun! We know that wedding planning in DC during the pandemic hasn’t been easy, but we hope that these photos shine a ray of hope into an otherwise difficult time 😊
With love,
Sarah + Hunter
