Hi, we're Hunter and Sarah, a husband-and-wife, luxury wedding photography team. We’re also educators, helping other photographers build profitable and sustainable photography businesses.
Since the very first time we met Dionysus and Michael, we knew their wedding was going to be a blast. Dee (as her friends call her) and Michael are such unique people, and are completely true to themselves. Michael’s Scotch-Irish roots inspired the traditional garb for he and his groomsmen, many of whom had worn kilts and sporrans before at renaissance fairs. And their love of good food and wine showed through in their extravagant hors d’oeuvres and dinner menu. When it started to drizzle as we were shooting their portraits, Michael just reminded us that the Irish believe rain on a wedding day as good luck, and they went on enjoying their celebration without a single complaint.
But their journey hasn’t been without its difficulties. Dee tragically lost her stepdad and mother in the fall of 2017. But as they told us when we first met, the mourning that surrounded those tragic losses changed her and Michael’s conversations about marriage from “maybe someday” to “let’s do this”. They came through those incredibly difficult times together, and have already built an incredibly strong foundation for their marriage because of it. Tributes to Dee’s mom and stepdad were present during the ceremony and during speeches, but always in a tone of fond remembrance rather than one of sorrow.
Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your wonderful wedding celebration! Your day was a joy from start to finish, and I learned a lot from Michael and his guys about Scotch-Irish tradition and garb. We knew that not even rain could stop you two from having an incredible evening, and weren’t surprised that you were willing to step into the rain for a few photos, and even venture back outside once the rain had stopped for a nighttime portrait beneath the big tree. We wish you both all the best on your honeymoon and in the early days of marriage, and know we’ll see you again next time you’re visiting C’ville for a wine tasting!
With love,
Hunter + Sarah
