When Lyndsey and Mike suggested we shoot at the Dell, we were a bit skeptical. As a popular fishing spot, this small reservoir is slightly off the beaten path at the University of Virginia. A spot like the Dell can be a little tricky photographically – to get the shots we wanted, we had to send Lyndsey and Mike walking out onto a precarious spillway across the Dell! This meant Hunter and I gave as much instruction as we could before sending them out on the walkway to pose, leaving Hunter and I on the “shore”. Any small changes we wanted to make were shouted out across the water and very, very slowly put into place. We definitely didn’t want to start the session with a swim!

 

But aside from the perilous start to the session, Lyndsey and Mike were naturals. Giggling and cuddling throughout the session, these lovebirds brought so much life and love into their photos! When we capture wider, more dramatic landscape shots like we did at the Dell, we love when we can hear our couples talking about the pose as they go – “I’m going so slow!” “You’re doing great!” “Keep looking at me!” – hearing our couples encourage and tease each other is a beautiful look into their relationship, and Lyndsey and Mike teased each other throughout their session!

We had so much fun with you guys last week! They way Mike was ready at any moment to dab sweat with a towel, fix a stray hair, or lend a joke (or kiss) showed us know that you two know exactly how to love and tease each other well. With the uncertainty of the world these days, we could see that you two are in good hands with each other, and can take on whatever the world throws at you! We cannot wait to shoot your wedding this winter, and see what the future holds for you!
