“Wait! I can see Evan. He’s right there!” I turned to see where Hunter was pointing and saw Evan’s unmistakable figure at the top of one of the overlooks at Torrey Pines Natural Reserve. This San Diego proposal  was really happening! “He just texted me. He wants to do it up there.” We jumped on the steep trail up to the overlook, and began to freak out. Shannon was sitting RIGHT there, facing right where we would come out of the trail! She would have to look right at us! I was still wondering whether wearing a hat, mask, and sunglasses really worked as a disguise like it does in the movies. We were about to find out. We walked up the trail, hurried past them with our heads down, made sure we were ready to go, and jumped almost immediately into action as Evan got down on one knee!

Our disguises were perfect – Shannon didn’t know who we were (even AFTER photographing their proposal) until we took our masks off! She was floored to see two close friends from Virginia on top of an overlook outside of San Diego, California. But, there were more surprises in store! Evan had arranged for the rest of our friend group to be there to surprise Shannon, but not overwhelm her. So we started on the path to another overlook, and let the rest of the group catch up after she had some time to process what just happened! Shannon turned to say something and found the whole group smiling and panting from sprinting down the path! It was the perfect surprise!

It was such a joy to be there for you two during your San Diego proposal! We know you felt the love this past week, and we are SO glad that the proposal went perfectly. Thank you for sharing your incredible spot with us, and we know that Torrey Pines will hold even more meaning for you two now! We’ll fly out to California for you guys anytime!
