Hi, we're Hunter and Sarah, a husband-and-wife, luxury wedding photography team. We’re also educators, helping other photographers build profitable and sustainable photography businesses.
It was just after 3:00 pm last Friday afternoon when my phone rang. It was Hunter, likely on his way back from a quick headshot session he had scheduled for that afternoon. When I picked up the phone he proceeded in a rushed tone, without introduction. “Tommy just called. He wants to move the proposal up… to this afternoon.” More out of surprise than in misunderstanding I asked Hunter, “Wait… As in, today, this afternoon? Like in less than an hour?” Hunter replied with the affirmative, indicating that as he had just gotten off the phone with Tommy and after discussing this weekend’s impending rain, this was our best option.
So within a few minutes of Hunter arriving at home, we were photoshoot-ready: camera bags re-packed for a proposal, and we were all disguised up, complete with hats, sunglasses and big puffy jackets to hide our cameras (and keep us warm). We arrived at the Lawn just early enough to snap a few test shots and get into position. We tried to stay as inconspicuous as possible in what was essentially a completely empty courtyard, although we later came to find that our hiding wasn’t totally necessary. Apparently Hillary’s suspicions had already been aroused by Tommy’s sudden suggestion that, after coming home from a long day of work on Friday, they get dressed up and take a walk on the Lawn in 40-degree weather for no particular reason. Tommy even put on his fancy white button-up! However, whether a total surprise or not, the emotions of the moment had Hillary in tears the moment that Tommy got down on one knee – something that I remember all too well from our own proposal.
Thank you so much for inviting us to be a part of your proposal! Even though the cold kept our engagement mini-session extra mini, we hope that you treasure these photos throughout your engagement and long into your marriage! We’re also really glad that Tommy made the call, even if at the last minute, to switch to Friday so we weren’t photographing in the pouring rain! We know that Law School has since started back up in full-swing, so we hope that this blog has served as a breath of fresh air for you Hillary!
With love,
Sarah + Hunter
