During most surprise proposals, Sarah and I can hide in plain sight. Whether it’s pushing a stroller on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall or sitting on a picnic blanket at a local winery, there’s nothing suspicious about two more people hanging out at a public place. But when we photograph a proposal for people we know, it’s totally different. For Isaiah’s surprise proposal at Waterperry Farm last month, we had to go full incognito! If Olivia Claire even saw our car parked in the parking lot, she wouldn’t have known we were nearby. Even if she knew the proposal was coming soon, we wanted to help Isaiah maintain as much mystery as possible, right up until the last minute. So into the bushes we went, right up until the second Isaiah got down on one knee!

The moment he went down, Olivia Claire immediately began smiling ear-to-ear! Even though they’ve been together for less than a year, these two knew that this was “it” after only a few months. And getting to be their friends as we watched their relationship blossom has been such a privilege. So it only feels right that we were able to be there to capture this moment as their relationship officially entered the next stage! And as we explored Waterperry Farm’s gardens and expansive fields together, Isaiah and Olivia Claire were so obviously, naturally, effortlessly in love.

It’s truly been a pleasure to know you two this year, and we’re grateful for your friendship. We’re also so happy we had the opportunity to produce these images for you two from your surprise proposal at Waterperry Farm! Consider it the least we can do for all the afternoon and wedding day babysitting you’ve done since our little guy was born! 😉 As you two embark on the journey of marriage, we hope you know that we’re always here for you both. And we hope that as life goes on together, with all the ups and downs, that these images will always bring you back to a time of joy and excitement!
