Hi, we're Hunter and Sarah, a husband-and-wife, luxury wedding photography team. We’re also educators, helping other photographers build profitable and sustainable photography businesses.
Hunter and I are schedulers. We schedule out the bulk of our lives weeks in advance, from our business calendars down to which night of the week we’ll have date night. After traveling to the DC area a half-dozen times this fall, we only had one trip left for the fall. We would drive up Friday afternoon, shoot a sunset engagement session that evening, then wake up the next morning and shoot a wedding all-day on Saturday then head home late Saturday night. Suddenly, Shiama reached out to us on Thursday evening, asking if we had any availability while we were in DC! We had been chatting with Shiama for months about their session, but with Mo in the midst of a six-month healing journey after reconstructive knee surgery, we were nervous that we wouldn’t get the chance to photograph these two this year. Luckily, Mo was healing quickly and was up for the session — even a sunrise session!
With his knee in a restrictive brace and only about 15-degrees of bend in his knee, Mo was the MVP of this session. Although we moved slow, once we got Mo in place, we could hide or remove the brace so that these happy memories wouldn’t be one big reminder of his recent injury! Marriage is “for better or for worse, in sickness and in health”, and after watching Shiama care for Mo throughout the session, lovingly helping him move and put his brace on and off over and over again, we could tell that there is a lasting love between these two.
We talk with a lot of couples about their relationships and wedding plans, but this was one of the first times that one of our couples has asked us what our advice would be for a couple walking the road to marriage! We love the intentionality that you two are moving into your marriage with, and we hope our advice is helpful as you guys keep building that foundation. It was such a joy getting to know you guys and we so appreciate your willingness to wake up extremely early for your engagement session! We know it was so worth it!
With love,
Sarah + Hunter
