I was sitting at a table with several strangers on the patio at King Family Vineyards. I was pretending to be a part of their bachelorette party, but my camera was hidden in my lap. I glanced over my shoulder and saw Hunter sitting at a picnic table a few yards away with his back to me. Like myself, he was wearing a hat and sunglasses to disguise his identity. We always have to be somewhat discreet when we photograph surprise proposals, but we were in full disguise this time. Jon had been a dear friend since my college orientation weekend, and had stood in our wedding. So naturally, we knew that if his girlfriend Kaitie saw us at the vineyard, she would know what was coming. When Jon and Kaitie arrived at King Family Vineyards and walked out to the spot we had picked out in advance, Jonathan stalled for several minutes. It turns out that we had disguised ourselves so well, he couldn’t see us at first and thought we hadn’t made it in time! Maybe we should consider a second career as private investigators!

 

Once he had asked and Kaitie had emphatically said yes, there were hugs all around. Then it was on to the engagement mini-session! There was laughter, there was cuddling up to each other, and lots of “How did you…?” and “Does my mom know?!” We always love watching the months of planning unravel, and Jonathan’s big reveal was no different. However, he still had one more surprise up his sleeve. As we finished their session and walked over to the outdoor patio, Kaitie burst into tears of joy at the sight of the gathered crowd! A group of almost 40 friends and family had made it all the way to Charlottesville on this Sunday afternoon to celebrate with Jon and Kaitie as they took this step towards marriage!

We feel so blessed to have been a part of this HUGE step in your relationship! We’ve been laying plans with Jon since the night he decided he would propose so many months ago, and it has been a true joy being your friends and watching your relationship grow over the last several years! We are so excited to continue on this journey with you two, and know that Summer 2020 cannot come soon enough! Happy Thanksgiving, and we will see you both soon!
