Hi, we're Hunter and Sarah, a husband-and-wife, luxury wedding photography team. We’re also educators, helping other photographers build profitable and sustainable photography businesses.
We have a confession to make… even though we still had thousands and thousands of you lovely people reading our blog this year, we have to admit that at times, 2021 was such an absolutely insane year in the wedding industry, that blogging was one thing that fell by the wayside. While we never missed a blog for one of our couples, we didn’t have as much time as we would have liked to post great content for our couples, for our photography students, and just about life!
However, that doesn’t mean that we didn’t have some stand-out blogs from 2021! And we’re so excited to share the “best of” for the HPS Blog this past year!
#10 – Make the Leap: How to Quit Your Day Job and Become a Full-Time Photographer, Part 2
Although coming in at a humble #10, this is the first time any of our “For Photographer” content has made to an annual Top 10 Blog! We’re super excited about this, especially as we focus more on serving photographers and empowering them to build successful and sustainable wedding photography businesses this year! This blog is specifically about one of our favorite topics: personal finances, and how they impact your business and your personal life!
#9 – Behind the Scenes 2020
If you’ve been following along for years, you know that this blog is a fan-favorite, and one we post each January to recap some of the most interesting and hilarious behind-the-scenes moments from the past year. And yes, BTS ’21 is coming soon! Although we think the entire blog is a ton of fun, we know the header image, of Sarah taking a photo from my shoulders, is probably what really drew people in ????
#8 – Stylish Winter Wedding at Farmington Country Club
It’s rare that a wedding can rack up enough views in just 3 weeks to make it onto our annual top-10 list, but it doesn’t surprise us one bit that Nancy and Ryan’s did! This wedding felt like a cover shoot for Vogue from start to finish! Not only are Nancy and Ryan just such good-looking humans, but their wintery wedding was decked out with beautiful details, from Nancy’s dress to Ryan’s James Bond-inspired tux, and everything in-between! And although we didn’t mention it at the time, it was one of the first blogs where we (discreetly) shared some of our film work with the world ????
#7 – Overcast 50’s Style Engagement Session at Barboursville Ruins
Between an adorable pup, a 1950s-inspired outfit, and the ruins of Barboursville, what didn’t draw people in to Anastasia and Cody’s engagement session blog?! These two were goofy and fun from start to finish, and we’re so glad that their engagement session made the blog! Also, fun fact: Anastasia is sharing her spot on the Top 10 Blog with her sister, whose wedding day made the #3 spot!
#6 – Sarah’s 3 Biggest Mistakes from Her Wedding Day
We found ourselves giving these same 3 pieces of advice to our couples and engaged friends alike, so we thought that it would make a good blog! Although these three tips may not apply to every couple, they were certainly true for our wedding day and our experience, so we wanted to make sure we saved other couples the trouble if we could!
#5 – Stylish Spring Wedding at Keswick Vineyards
Aside from being wonderful human beings inside-and-out, when we found out that Leslie and Eli’s dog Winston was also Instagram famous (54,000 followers and counting as of this writing), we knew this blog would get a lot of traction! And yes, we DID link to winstogram in their blog ???? But while you’re there, PLEASE check out their beautiful wedding photos at one of our favorite C’ville venues!
#4 – Elegant Fall Wedding at Big Spring Farm in Lexington
As much as we try to treat every couple like family, Jess and Tanner were ~literally~ family. Not only did we have the honor of capturing my only brother’s wedding this past October, but we got to do it while ALSO being Best Man and Maid of Honor! To say it was an adventure would be an understatement, so we’ll just let their beautiful fall wedding speak for itself. P.S. Shout-out to Jess and Tanner for making the Top 10 Blog for the second year in a row!
#3 – Stunning Summertime Elopement on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Maybe it’s because we told Veronika and Mat about our “Secret Spot” along the Blue Ridge Parkway for their elopement, or maybe it’s just because of how gorgeous their intimate elopement images turned out. But either way, we’re stoked to see their wedding day up on the Top 10 Blog!
#2 – Stunning Fall Wedding Outside Portland, Maine
When we booked our flights for Maine and remembered that we were being paid to take a quick trip up to New England during peak fall foliage, we had to pinch ourselves. Not only were Stephanie and Andrew such an awesome couple, but their confidence in us in flying us up to Maine for their wedding was a reminder of 1) how wonderful our couples are, and 2) how much we love our jobs!
#1 – Our 4 Intentional Weekly Date-Night Questions
It seriously warms our hearts that THIS blog made it to the #1 spot in 2021. With more than 600 reads, if there was one blog that we hoped would stand out from last year, it was this one. Not only do we feel like this blog shares our heart for marriage and “dating your spouse”, but we’ve heard from so many people throughout this year that they’ve implemented some form of these 4 questions, and that it’s been a force for intimacy, love, and mutual respect in their relationships! That’s the best news EVER for us!
