Something that surprised me most about Kate and Ian was the first things they told me at the start of their UVa Lawn engagement session. “We’re pretty awkward in front of the camera.” We hear this from a lot of our couples, so that part wasn’t what surprised me. What did surprise me was how sweet Kate and Ian are together! Being in front of a camera can be strange. But these two settled in for their timeless Lawn engagement session wonderfully!

The only downside to a spring photo session is how busy some of the most gorgeous spots in Charlottesville can be. And the Lawn is certainly no exception. As we walked around looking for some quiet spots, I feel like I really got to know their UVA experience. We even visited Kate’s Range Room for a few shots! I loved hearing more about how they interacted while still in college, even though they didn’t start dating until they reconnected years later! Since they’re heading home to Hampton Roads for their wedding this fall, we are so glad we could capture their classic lawn engagement session as a nod to when they first met in 2018!

We are so glad that we connected with you two! Getting to know you a little more and learning more about your vision for the wedding day in November was so much fun. We hope sneaking in a few portraits with the dogwood flowers at UVA are a perfect accent to your wedding emblem! And we know that this natural sweetness toward each other will only be amplified tenfold when we see you next… on your wedding day!
