UVA Lifestyle Grad Session at Sal’s Pizza on the Downtown Mall

Sam called Hunter and I one afternoon with a “crazy idea”. She was about to graduate from UVa, and wanted some UVa graduation photos captured. In fact, she already had a classic UVa grad photoshoot scheduled with us on the Lawn (schedule your own Grad Session with us here)! But she also had another idea. Although she didn’t have this exact jargon, what she wanted was a lifestyle grad session. You see, she’d been working at Sal’s Italian restaurant on Charlottesville’s downtown pedestrian mall since her first year at UVa. The place meant a lot to her, and she had seen a TikTok that inspired her! She wanted to mix drinks, pour wine, carry (and eat!) pizza for her grad photos! She wanted to celebrate the part that Sal’s played during her four years at UVa. In it’s own special way, it was a part as important as her classwork and friend groups!
When we met at Sal’s on a Wednesday afternoon in May the whole staff was excited. We could instantly tell why this place was so special to her! And as we went around capturing different imagery, both outside and inside, she was constantly being hyped up by her co-workers. Everyone wanted to make sure she had everything she could possibly want! She didn’t need much, however. She was so at home as she poured wine and carried her pizza tray – even when she sat on the bar for a few shots!

Hunter and I are SO glad your reached out to us about this UVa, pizzeria-inspired lifestyle grad session! We have been dying to do more of these types of graduation photoshoots, where we don’t just capture classic, beautiful portraits on the Lawn. We also want to show our grads in their own unique, authentic spaces. And for you, that was Sal’s! It was so fun to see you in your element, and we know that you (and probably Sal’s) will look back on these photos fondly for years to come. Thanks for trusting us with your vision!
