Hey photographer friends! Welcome back to our Photography Blog, Mastering the Wedding Photography Biz with Hunter and Sarah! Today, we wanted to share with you guys one simple change in your wedding photography sales process that can literally transform your business.
When we first bring on many of our coaching students, their booking process looks something like this. When they get an email inquiry from an interested couple, they do one of two things. They either respond with their availability and some kind of pricing brochure, then try to get them to sign a contract. Or, they’ll get try to get the potential bride or groom on the phone, and try to answer whatever questions the couple has.
And if you’re like most of our photography students, this usually ends in you getting ghosted, or with your client trying to haggle you down on your price. 😫
Aren’t you tired of getting ghosted?! But what if we told you there was a way that you can totally WOW potential couples and get them excited about working with you, all while demonstrating your value in such a way that they rarely came back and ask for a discount?! Well… that’s what we’re telling you right now! There is a way to do all of these things, and once you learn how to do it, it’s actually not all that difficult. What we’re talking about is a simple client consultation video chat. And we’re not exaggerating when we say it can absolutely transform your business.
More than 5 years ago, while we were shooting weddings for barely $1,000, we first learned about client consultation meetings from another photographer. So we tried them out. Then we bought some books on sales, and it changed the way we ran these meetings. Then we bought some more education from other photographers, which further evolved our client consultation process.
Every time we ran the meeting, we paid attention to what worked and what didn’t. We iterated and improved and got better each time. And now, after running our client consultation or sales call more than 200 times, we’ve booked over $700,000 worth of weddings from this exact method! And what’s been most amazing to us is that this process worked for us when we were $1,500 wedding photographers, and we still use it to this day to book wedding packages at $10,000 or more with our high-end, luxury clients.
But it doesn’t just work for us because we’re especially good at sales or professionals on video, or even because we’re a husband and wife team.
Not long ago, we showed our coaching student Bri how to run her sales meetings just like this. Before we taught her our methods, the last 5 leads she had gotten had ghosted her completely. They hadn’t even taken the time to reply to her emails, and she was naturally feeling really discouraged. So, we taught her these methods — both how to get her leads into a video call and how to run the meeting and checked in on her just one month later. Out of the 6 leads she had gotten since we had chatted, she got four of them into a meeting, and sold 2 of them on her full-day wedding coverage! How would you like to book two weddings next month?!
Even more impressive than that — earlier this year, we taught this process to another one of our coaching students, Brittany. In the 4 months that followed, she went 15 for 15 — booking EVERY single wedding couple who she got into a sales meeting! And the best part? She had only photographed 3 weddings as the lead photographer when we taught her our client consultation call template. After just 4 months, she had booked SIX TIMES as many weddings as she had before we taught her these methods. 😱
